In the footsteps of the dialects through the Kielce Upland

19.03.2017 The Kielce Upland, which today has a more agricultural character and attracts tourists like magnesium, boasts a long history and centuries-old mining tradition. As early as 4,000 years ago, the first, rather primitive mines were created in this area, in which striped flint was mined. Today, tourists wanting to get to know the working conditions of former dialects better can visit two points: Krzemionki Opatowskie and Ćmielów. Here you can see old tools and preserved fragments of old mines. Nowa Słupia is particularly attractive, where Dymarki Świętokrzyskie are organized. Dymarki, i.e. furnaces formerly used for smelting iron, have been carefully reconstructed here and are now one of the region's greatest tourist attractions. They also gave impetus to organize an event called Dymarki Świętokrzyskie. This event is an opportunity to see iron smelting shows while having fun at a folk festival. Here, you can see for yourself how important iron ore mining once played in this area. However, these are not the only places associated with the old industry. Near Chęciny, on Mount Zelejowa, you can see effective "Chęciny marbles", i.e. limestones overgrown with colored calcite. These marbles, due to their attractive appearance, were eagerly used as a finish for some buildings in the area. The Kielecka Upland was also an important place for copper mining. To this day, many places refer to this activity with their names. Therefore, we have a village called Miedziana Góra, which is one of the oldest mining settlements in the Kielce Upland. Another important place related to copper mining is Góra Miedzianka, located near Chęciny. To this day, you can meet here decorative stone collectors who come to this region hoping to expand their collections. Many interesting places related to old mining can also be seen in Kielce itself. Here, specially designed hiking trails lead to those places that were associated with lead and silver mining. Among them is the famous Karczówka hill. This hill is a fantastic place for a walk and an excellent viewpoint.
