Address: ul. Grota-Roweckiego 8 , 27-500 Opatów
The most valuable monument of Opatów, it occupies a unique place among the monuments of Romanesque architecture in Poland. It is one of the few well-kept buildings of this type. From the twelfth century to our time, for more than eight hundred years, with its size, splendor and high architectural class, it testifies to the craftsmanship of medieval builders. The church was erected from the surrounding flint sandstone, it is a three-nave basilica with a transept, two towers from the west and three apses from the east. Between the towers there is a main Romanesque portal with a gothic embedded on it. The Romanesque portal is also located in the northern porch, decorated with floral motifs, in which the emblems of the Swan and Odrowąż are incorporated. The interior of the church is covered with baroque polychrome from the 18th century in blue and pink colors and gives the interior a very specific atmosphere. An important place is the library where we can find a collection of theological and philosophical works in the amount of about 500 volumes, including works of Cicero, Aristotle, Jan Chyzostom, Augustine.
