The Kadzielnia Nature Reserve is part of the Kadzielniański Limestone Range located in the south and west of Kielce. The highest hill located there, called the Geologists Rock, is a relic of the former Kadzielnia Mountain. From the top of the rock there is a beautiful view of Karczówka, Zgórskie and Posłowickie, as well as the massif of the Telegraf mountain. It is known from history that the quarry in Kadzielnia has existed since the 17th century and supplied raw material for firing lime. Around 1770, the first lime kiln was built on the initiative of Bishop Kajetan Sołtyk. The extraction of rock raw material intensified the creation of a deep excavation, at the lowest level flooded with groundwater. Today, Kadzielnia as an effect of 200 years of mining activity is an area extremely attractive in scientific, didactic and landscape terms. In 1962, a strict inanimate nature reserve was created in the part of the quarry encompassing the Geologists' Rock. The hill is built mainly of Upper Devonian rocky limestone associated with the former carbonate shallow and containing the remains of marine fauna. Karst phenomena are also characteristic of the reserve, manifested in the occurrence of various forms of surface and deep karst, which resulted in the creation of caves, funnels and karst chimneys. The limestone substrate of the Kadzielnia reserve is also a habitat for many rare and protected species of calcareous vegetation, while in the caves there are valuable species of bats and spiders. Unfortunately, the marked tourist trail does not run along the entire length of the Kadzielnia reserve, but nature can be enjoyed from the surrounding walking paths. In the eastern part of the quarry there are also viewpoints from which, in addition to the Kadzielnia reserve and the amphitheater created in 2010, you can enjoy beautiful views of the Świętokrzyskie Mountains. The area of Kadzielnia is one of the most known areas of occurrence of caves in the Świętokrzyskie Mountains. There are 25 caves and many rock shelters here. Since 2004, work has been underway to make several local caves available to tourists. As a result, three caves were merged: Discoveries Caves, Prochownia and Szczelina in Kadzielnia.
