The royal castle in Szydłów is located on a slope of a hill falling towards the valley of the Ciekacka River. Located within the fortifications of the former city. It once had the character of a spacious royal residence, although only used temporarily. This is evidenced by the extensive remains of a courtyard and a large residential building. To this day, the ruins of the residential part have survived, the so-called treasury from the 15th and 16th centuries and the gatehouse with the remains of the walls separating the castle from the city. From the west, the castle courtyard is enclosed by perimeter walls, which are part of the city's fortifications. The castle was built on the plan of an elongated polygon. It closed the courtyard from the south and had dimensions of 34.8 x 12.8 m. It was built on a rectangular plan. It was storied and built of stone. On the southern side there was a break, maybe a former castle chapel. There were two rooms on each floor. On the first floor from the walls was a room with a fireplace niche. The building probably had a gable roof. There are ogival stone portals and stone window fittings with a very high artistic level (similar copies in Poland are found only on Wawel). The Knights' Hall is the best-preserved, medieval royal residence building in the Kingdom of Poland.
