It is probably the largest and oldest known tree in Poland. It currently measures 30 meters in height, the trunk perimeter at a height of 1.3 m is 9.85 m and the diameter of the crown is about 40 meters. He is 645 to 670 years old. Despite many dramatic experiences, it is still a living tree, therefore it is a symbol of strength and perseverance. Next to the oak there is a green tourist trail leading from Bliżyn to Zagnańsk. According to one legend, Jan III Sobieski and Marysieńka hid treasures in Bartek. On the trunk of Bartek, from the south-east side are suspended two figures of the crucified Christ. One of the figures shows the year 1853. According to oral accounts, they were to be placed in memory of the hanging of two officers from the January Uprising on the tree. According to another version, the cast was to be hung in remembrance of Sobieski's victory near Vienna, and the other was placed in memory of the end of the cholera epidemic in 1853.
